News Express, Hindi news channel in HD, coming up soon on most DTH services
News Express channel, a national hindi news channel, will launch in July in full high definition (HD) format. Although the date of formal launch is not announced yet, it will start its test signals soon. Sai Prasad Media, part of the Rs 15 billion Sai Prasad Group, has earmarked Rs 400 million for the distribution of this upcoming national Hindi news channel on cable TV networks and DTH services.
Sai Prasad Group has varied interests in foods & beverage industry, agricultural products, petroleum, real estates, infrastructure, constructions, green energy, education and media and entertainment. Sai Prasad Media is also launching its weekly magazine titled Hum Vatan soon under its Editor Nirmalendu Saha. While media institute will be situated at Noida headquarter and will be headed by CEO Mukesh Kumar. Kumar has earlier headed and launched 5 news channels like Sahara Samay MP and Chhattisgarh, S1, Voice of India MP-Rajasthan and recent being Maurya TV.
Sai Prasad Media is headquartered at Noida, the hub for most national news channels. “We have over 300 reporters across eights states,” said Kumar. On the content front, Kumar said that the channel will focus on politics in every walk of life. “We will have special programming based on hardcore politics, politics in a corporate setup, politics at home, in social life, etc.” Kumar claims that the channel has state of art studios, world class news room and latest international technologies being used in media with the team of distinguished journalists available in the country.
Currently the channel has over 300 people working across headquarter and 8 bureaus. The channel has hired Ex-BBC and Sahara Samay Shyam Sunder as political editor while Sanjeev Chauhan will head the crime beaureau. Girish Juneja is the programming head of the channel while Shyam Salvi is heading the technical team. Manish Vajpayee, Shweta Srivastava and Amritanshu are the lead anchors of News Express. The marketing and Sales team of over 10 dedicated professionals is headed by Seharyar Khan. The channel is soon to announce its creative and media agencies.
Kumar told, “We are gearing up to launch the channel by mid-July. We are spending Rs 400 million on distribution. All our distribution deals are done and it is our biggest cost,” The channel has already signed carriage deals with all major multi-system operators (MSOs). “We have also signed up the direct-to-home (DTH) operators barring Tata Sky,” said Kumar. While all DTH subscribers can avail this channel soon, Tata Sky DTH customers might have to hold on for some time.
